In the first segment this week, Senior Editor Nic de Sena chats with Arthur Coldwells about KTM’s latest Super Duke 1290 GT. That’s the sport-touring version of the Super Duke R. The question is whether KTM overly detuned its fierce superbike, or whether even in touring mode, the heart of The Beast is still just as savage. The ONE RS battery capacity is 21% bigger than the ONE R battery. The batteries can work with temperatures from -20º to 40°C (-4º to 104°F). Last time I tested a 360-degree cam, I did the editing in Final Cut Pro, but this time I opted to try Insta360 Studio, the company’s own editing app. This is free, but you do need to enter the serial number of your camera to activate it.
As is the case with most gadgets these days, a good swath of the Insta360 ONE RS's functionality is accessed via a dedicated app. I would not mourn if companies collectively decided we don't need an official app for every piece of tech we own, but in this case the small size of the ONE RS's onboard screen does make it more understandable. Video modes: Standard Video, Slow Motion, Active HDR, Timelapse, TimeShift, Loop Recording, 6K WidescreenAnd I’ve not even covered the weird little features like 360 webcam mode, voice activation and other accessories. The two lens modules impress on specs. The 4K Wide Angle Mod is a f/2.0, 16.4mm focal length (35mm equivalent) lens that can snap photos in 12 MP (4:3) and 8MP (16:9) and shoot video in 4K 60fps. It also manages 200fps in full HD, allowing 8x slow-mo footage. Meanwhile, the Dual-Lens 360º Mod is standard Insta360 fare, with its two f/2.8, 7.2mm (35mm equivalent) lenses that together capture everything in 5.7K 30fps. However, some sacrifices do have to be made to accommodate the camera's compact and modular design. The most notable is the minuscule size of the ONE RS's preview screen, which measures at just 1.25 inches. Credit: Amanda Yeo / Mashable Both the One RS Boost Mod and X3 feature a half inch sensor for shooting standard video, and they can both capture 4K resolution video. The One RS Boost Mod can shoot at 60fps whereas as the X3 is limited to 30fps.
Given that you’re effectively getting two cameras in one, there are separate specs for the 4K and 360 lens configurations.
The Insta360 One RS is the most versatile action camera around
The Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition can record 5.7K with the 360º lens and 4K at 60fps with the wide lens, for the photos it can shoot 48MP photos with the new 8:7 aspect ratio, it shoots using a 170° super wide-angle lens with an opening of F1.8. Editing via the app now comes with a new Snap Wizard mode, which allows you to move your phone or swipe to reframe. You can do quite a bit with the free Insta360 Camera control app on your Android or iOS smartphone to capture and send, or publish on social media. The smartphone app has helpful step-by-step guides telling you how to get all the fancy final videos, though you don’t need to get fancy to memorialize the best moments of a ride, hike, or baby’s first birthday. I am no techie and produced these clips with just a few button pushes on my iPhone. The Insta360 One RS can shoot stills, but we wouldn’t recommend buying one for the job. Shooting feels quite slow, with a notable wait between each exposure as the camera processes/saves the files. It’s much like other action cameras in this respect.
Is the Insta360 ONE RS a novelty or a serious filmmaking device? Unique in the market, the ONE RS is designed to appeal to anyone who would normally consider a GoPro yet yearns to at least have a go at 360º. Another new video mode, 6K Widescreen brings a bit of classic Hollywood magic, capturing a 2.35:1 ratio in ultra-detailed 6K. Now that’s cinematic! Powerful New ONE RS Core & Processor The first time I used it was when attending the opening of Apple Brompton Road, the fifth Apple Store in London, and the third flagship. Since I knew there would be plenty of standard video online, as half the people in the store were shooting with their iPhones, I opted to shoot 360-degree video to provide the most immersive experience possible.

There is also a wealth of nifty and fun features in the Shot Lab that is updated regularly. New iterations like Ghost Town, Shadow Clone and Freeze Throw are the latest, but it’s unique to see how the app learns from its community of users and takes those lessons to automate them for all users. Insta360 have developed two awesome but imperfect cameras for creating unique content, action shots and vlogs. They can both claim to be “two cameras in one” but I’d say this is more accurate for the Insta360 One RS which does literally have two separate lenses. Crisper audio - the ONE RS Core now has 3 mics ( vs 2 mics for ONE R) for enhanced audio capture, and a new Wind Noise Reduction algorithm.
When out and about, the 360º module is protected by a U-shaped silicon hood when off the camera and by two snap-on lens caps when on the camera, which is good thinking. The cover for the USB-C port and microSD card slot is awkward to open and unwieldy to properly close for a water-tight seal. I found it impossible to properly latch this little door when the camera is in the mounting enclosure, so you must take the camera out of the enclosure to install the little SD card cover door. Fortunately, the Insta360 One RS camera is waterproof to 16 feet with the door installed, so torrential thunderstorms won’t hurt it. It is an outdoor action camera with a high fun factor. I would love it if the effective resolution were higher – looking more like 1080p – but I do think spherical video is an incredibly powerful tool to really give people a sense of being there. Reframed video You can use this app to reframe your 360 videos which allows for a lot of creativity. You can colour correct your videos, combine clips together, add music, change the speed along with many other options. There are also a dozen special effects that are automatically created by the app which makes creating unique clips very easy.

There are various new innovations for Insta360 on the ONE R Twin Edition, such as Color Plus, HDR video and Night Shot, while long-standing features like the six-axis gyroscope FlowState stabilization are present again.
